Riverboat
Words & Music: Jamie Field
Picture this if you will, a backlit summers evening, everything quite still.
Water flows slow and brown, it’s like the glory and the torture of a Mississippi sundown
My name’s Mister LaTour and I live on the river, know every inch of it for sure,
Every tumbledown shack is a marker going upstream and a prayer when coming back
I’m Captain of this riverboat, just tryin’ to keep the thing afloat
It’s steam and wheels, and thuds and squeals, riding on the water…..
I’m Captain of this riverboat, just tryin’ to keep the thing afloat
It’s steam and wheels, and thuds and squeals, riding on the water…..
Who knows who runs this place, and through all the death and darkness, should I meet him face to face,
Words are never enough, but when the final battle’s over, then I’d like to call his bluff.

Watertight
Words and Music: Jamie Field
Out here on the water wide, (Row, my lady, row)
Shadows dance and strange birds cry (Go, my lady, go.)
Cotton fields are growing high (Row, my lady row)
Hands reach up to touch the sky (Go my lady, go.)
And your words will echo through the darkest night,
Faith, love, oh, please, won’t you show me a guiding light?
And even if I run, I know that I am right,
Keep me safe, keep me warm…. watertight.
Spin and swirl and breaking free (Row my lady, row)
Withypool won’t wither me, (Go, my lady, go)
Hang my woes from the hanging tree, (Row, my lady, row)
Mercy, love, and mercy me. (Go my lady, go)
And your words will echo through the darkest night,
Faith, love, oh, please, won’t you show me a guiding light?
And even if I run, I know that I am right,
Keep me safe, keep me warm…. watertight.

River Girl
Words: Jamie Field. Music: Maria Milewska
This misty morning, see it rising from the river,
And the path down to the levee’s jeweled with dew-drops strewn from heaven,
See me shiver in the cold, cold air
And the flotsam’s drifting past me like so many bad-news dreams
Is the world so full of wonder or as pretty as it seems?
See me shiver in the cold, cold air
And the sun beats down on the river,
It’s a mirror shining back into the sky
Goes on forever and I’m waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting…..
Out on the water, feel it moving like a lover
Caught between the pain of guilt and love of guilty pleasure,
See me shiver in the cold, cold air,
And the sun beats down on the river,
It’s a mirror shining back into the sky
Goes on forever and I’m dreaming, dreaming, dreaming, dreaming, dreaming, dreaming…..
This misty morning, I pull you from the river,
More beautiful than I am, but I’m me and I’m still breathing
See me shiver in the cold, cold air.....
